Fascial Manipulation
Fascial Manipulation® is a manual therapy method that has been developed by Luigi Stecco, a physiotherapist from the north of Italy. This method has evolved over the last 40 years through study and practice with a vast number of musculoskeletal and internal problems.
This treatment method focuses on fascia, the soft tissue component that permeates the human body. It forms a whole-body continuous three dimensional matrix of structural support. Fascia interpenetrates and surrounds all organs, muscle bones and nerve fibers, creating a unique environment in our human body. Interestingly enough, it is the only body tissue that can modify and/or regain its elasticity/consistency when subjected to manipulation in the form of pressure, heat or vibration.
This method presents a complete biomechanical model that assists in deciphering the role of fascia in musculoskeletal and internal disorders. The FM® model looks at the relationship between muscle and the deep fascia, consisting of systematic assessment in relation to pain patterns, movement impairments, and associated alterations identified in the deep fascia. Instead of thinking in terms of muscle origin, insertion and general action, this theory focuses on triplaner interrelationships and regional interdependence, both at the site of symptoms and regionally along the kinetic chain where unrelated impairments in a distant anatomical region may play a part in the patients primary symptoms.
Fascial Manipulation® is effective in treating the most common conditions therapists see in their practice on a daily basis.
